1905年11月，中国人拍摄了我们自己的第一部电影——《定军山》。这部电影实际上是京剧《定军山》的一段表演记录，而《定军山》故事原型则是取材于中国古典小说《三国演义》中的一个章回（episode）。电影由任庆泰导演，北京丰泰照相馆拍摄（FengtaiPhotography），由“京剧之王”谭鑫培主演，扮演黄忠将军。这部电影的放映标志着中国电影的诞生。

In November of 1905, the Chinese shot our first film, The Battle of Dingjunshan. The film was in fact a recording of a performance of the Beijing opera The Battle of Dingjunshan, and the original story was derived from one episode in the classic Chinese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The film was directed by REN Qingtai, shot by Beijing Fengtai Photography, and it starred by TANXinpei, “the King of Beijing Opera”, as General HUANG Zhong. The screening of the film marked the birth of Chinese films.
