　　七夕节是在农历七月初七庆祝的，也被称作“乞巧节”(Begging for Skills Festival)。在中国有很多关于七夕节起源的民间传说，其中最 广为流传的是牛郎和织女(Cowherd and Weaver Girl)的故事。传说每年的这一天他们会走上鹊桥(the magpie bridge)相会。因此，七夕节是中国传统节日中最 具浪漫色彩的节日，常被称作中国的情人节。七夕节主要的民俗，就是女孩子们参加各种乞巧活动。据说织女是一个美丽聪明、心灵手巧的人，所以女孩子们在这天夜里会聚在—起，向织女乞求让自己心灵手巧，俗称“乞巧”。

　　The Qixi Festival, observed on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, is also called "Begging far Skills Festival". There are many folk legends as to the origin of the Qixi Festival in China, but the story of Cowherd and Weaver Girl is the most widely circulated one. It is said that they meet each other on that day annually on the magpie bridge. Therefore, it is the most romantic festival among all Chinese traditional festivals and often regarded as Chinese Valentine's Day. The main folk custom for the Qixi Festival is that girls take part in a variety of activities to beg for skills. Weaver Girl was said to be pretty, intelligent and ingenious, so on the eve of the festival, girls would get together to pray to Weaver Girl for ingenious skills, which is called "skills-begging".
