　　Drink driving is a very serious issue in China. In the first half of 2009, China's Drink driving cases jumped by 9%. In Beijing alone, 97 people were killed by drunk drivers by the end of July in 2009. The deadly result has spark repeated crackdowns on drink driving and heated debates on whether offenders deserve harsher punishrnent.

　　醉酒驾驶在中国是一个非常严重的问题。在2009年前半年，中国的醉酒驾驶案件增加了9%。单在北京，截止到2009年7月底就有97人死于醉酒驾驶的司机之手。这一致命的结果激发了对醉酒驾驶的不断制裁，引起了对触犯法规者是否应受到更严厉的惩罚这一问题激烈的争论。

　　There are a number of reasons for the increase of drink driving in China. Firstly, China's highly sociable but sometimes excessive drinking habits should be mentioned. People often persuade others to drink more, even if they know their friends may drive when drunk. Secondly, the punishrnent for drink driving is not harsh enough. Many people argue that the cost of drink driving is too low, so drunk drivers do it again and again.

　　中国醉酒驾驶的增长有很多原因。首先，应该提一提，中国人交际广泛，但有时有过度饮酒的习惯。人们通常会劝别人多喝点，即使他们知道自己的朋友喝醉了以后可能会驾车。其次，对醉酒驾驶的惩罚还不够严厉。许多人认为醉酒驾驶的成本太低，所以醉酒司机一次又一次地这么做。

　　More severe punishment is defrnitely necessary to curb drink driving. No matter who the driver is, or what the reason is, any drunk driver should be severely punished. But we also need to attach greater importance to education. Anyway, prevention is always the best measure.

　　更严厉的惩罚对遏制醉酒驾驶来说绝对有必要。不管司机是谁，或者出于什么原因，任何醉酒司机都应该被严厉地惩罚。但是我们还需要对教育教导加以更大的重视。不管怎样，预防总是最好的措施。
