　　Your approaches to the problem are wrong.

　　not only...but also...意为"不仅……而且……"，可以连接句子中的任何成分，也可以连接两个分句，以下总结了在使用这一句型时需要注意的问题。

　　当not only...but also...连接句子时，not only可以置于句首表示强调，这时not only引导的分句要采用倒装结构。如：

　　Not only has he a first-class brain but also he is a tremendously hard worker.

　　他不仅头脑灵活，而且工作努力。

　　not only与but also后面各自所接的词的词性必须对等。如：

　　Not only I but also Tom and Mary are fond of watching television.

　　不只是我，汤姆和玛丽也喜欢看电视。

　　The Americans and the British not only speak the same language but also share a large number of social customs.

　　英国人和美国人不但语言相同，而且很多风俗习惯也相同。

　　The problem for the recipient was trying to guess not only who the sender was, but also what his secret feelings might be.

　　牧信人的麻烦在于，不但要努力猜出信是谁寄的，还要推测寄信人的内心感受。

　　not only只能连用，而but also既可连用，也可分开用。如：

　　Shakespeare was not only a writer but also an actor.

　　莎士比亚不仅是一位剧作家，而且是一位演员。

　　Television is not only boring，but it also wastes a lot of time.

　　电视不仅乏味，而且还浪费了许多时间。

　　谓语动词的数应与but also后主语的数保持一致。如：

　　Not only you but also David teaches in this college.

　　不只是你，戴维也在这个学院教书。
