　　四级词汇讲解:

　　本句的主干是people may be "well" 。 who引导定语从句，修饰people;in this sense为插入语;if引导条件状语从句;条件状语从句中的they can又是一个定语从句，修饰health。

　　handicap既可作名词，意为"障碍;残疾;不利条件";又可作动词，意为"妨碍，使不利"。如:

　　1) Deafness can be a serious handicap.耳聋算是一个严重的缺陷。

　　2) He was handicapped by lack of education.他因文化水平低而吃了亏。

　　in the face of意为"面临;不管"。

　　well一词十分常用，用法也很多。包括:

　　※ "井;源泉"。如:

　　The police found the lost treasure in an abandoned well.警察在一口废弃的井里找到了丢失的财宝。

　　She was driving at well over the speed limit.她开车的速度远远超过了限速。

　　※ "彻底地"。如:

　　The pan must be dried wetl before you put it away.这个锅必须彻底干燥后才可以收起来。
