　　A: Have you talked to your boyfriend about buying a table?

　　Brush off的原意是“刷掉，刷掉, 掸掉, 拂掉”的意思。例如：Dust on the surface brushes off easily. （表面的灰尘容易掸掉。）Please brush this insect off.（请把这只虫掸掉。）在口语中，可以用来表示“拒绝，漠视，不理睬”等意思。

　　使用这个短语的时候，注意brush off之间既可以接something，也可以接somebody。它除了做动词短语用外，还可以做名次短语用，但是需要用—连字符将其连接起来。例如：She gave me the brush - off. （她不理我。）I wanted to keep in touch, but when I called him he gave me the brush-off.（我想和他保持联系，但当我打电话给他时，他却不理睬我。）
